Archbishop Timothy Broglio gives homily at the Church of St. Catherine

BETHLEHEM—During a Christmas Mass at the Church of St. Catherine in Bethlehem, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, called on Holy Land pilgrims to remember why Christ was born—to assure human salvation. The archbishop celebrated the Mass on November 27, 2013 during a weeklong pilgrimage by nearly three dozen members of the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS). The pilgrimage was timed to coincide with the end of the Year of Faith, the 13-month period from Oct. 11, 2012 to Nov. 24, 2013 declared by Pope Benedict XVI to summon Catholics the world over to conversion and a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

Archbishop Broglio said:

Second Airing of New Documentary on Pope Francis

[This was sent recently to all Chaplains]

This coming Sunday, Nov. 3, the Knights of Columbus-produced documentary on Pope Francis will again be aired on national television. CNBC will broadcast the documentary at 6-7 p.m. Eastern (3-4 p.m. Pacific).

The film, Francis: The Pope from the New World, features interviews with Pope Francis' friends and associates in Argentina, as well as with American commentators such as Supreme Knight Carl Anderson and members of the hierarchy, including Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Cardinal Sean O'Malley, Archbishop Charles Chaput and Archbishop Jose Gomez.

The world has been fascinated by our new Holy Father, but many people still do not fully know the man who is now our pope. This film introduces viewers to Jorge Mario Bergoglio - the man who became Pope Francis - and his life story, from his childhood and patronage of his local soccer team to his vocation and time as a priest, bishop and then cardinal archbishop of Buenos Aires.

If possible, please encourage your council members and parishioners to watch this documentary during your homily or following Masses on the weekend of Nov. 2 and 3.

As Knights, standing in solidarity with our Holy Father, it is not only important that we know him but that we help others to know him, and that we support him in the work of the New Evangelization. If we follow Pope Francis' charitable witness, we have the opportunity to change the world.

OCTOBER Recruiting with Knight Vision

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR ONE NEW MEMBER EACH MONTH?:

Click here to download the October Membership newsletter from Supreme.

In a recent meeting with his staff, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson stated, “This is an organization that offers something good to every, single Catholic man”. If that is true, and I for one sincerely believe that it is, why then are we not getting that message out? Perhaps it is because we are too complacent, too comfortable with our council as it is. While we say we want new members, we are more comfortable with those men we know. In the end, our complacency allows us to slowly watch our council become smaller and ineffective until eventually we can’t fill all the Officer positions and we feel we have to close the doors. I fail to believe that any member wants that to happen to his council, so how do we change this fate?

FROM THE MOUTHS OF BABES

From the Mouths of Babes

Sometimes we talk our talk and plan our strategies on what
and how we need to approach recruiting new knights. We
think and use buzz words and fancy terms and never seem to
deliver the right message. Some of us who have been knights
for 5 years to over 30 and 40 years struggle with the right
reasons to become a knight. This weekend I had the privilege
to work with so many great people and as they passed through
the Kino room to talk about the problems we all face in
recruitment and retention.

Bishop Kicanas asks parishes to have a Votive Mass for peace in Syria

Brother Knights,

The Bishop has asked all the parishes of the diocese to have a Votive Mass on Saturday, Sept 7th, to support the Pope's call for world wide prayer for peace in Syria.  This would occur at the same time as the Pope's vigil in Rome. Each pastor will be deciding to what he will do in his parish.

We should support this as best we can. Attend this mass wearing your knights shirt or participate in an Honor Guard.

Vivat Jesus!

Mario.
