PSD Mike Moeykens Submits Resignation as CO

Brothers,

Today, PSD Mike Moeykens submitted his resignation, effective immediately, as a Conferring Officer (CO) in the 3rd Degree Exemplification. He is suffering from some health issues. He feels it is for the good of the Order that he steps down from this role. He plans to continue to be an active Knight and support the team with coaching the current and future Co’s with their lines.

Brother Mike served in the Arizona jurisdiction for 22 years as a CO. He successfully conducted 111 - 3rd Degree Exemplifications during these 22 years. Prior to moving to Arizona, Mike served as the State Deputy of the great state of Vermont. Mike has been a true friend to me, to the state, and to the Order. He has offered me great advice and counsel throughout my years as a State Officer. I am proud and fortunate to know such a great man.

I spoke with Mike this afternoon. He is in good spirits and promises he will be active and we will see him often at various Knights of Columbus events.

I plan to make Mike the class honoree at the March 14, 2015 - 2nd and 3rd Degree Exemplification, in Vail, AZ. If his health allows, he will be attending this degree. All are welcome to say hello to Mike after the degree concludes that day.

Mike needs our prayers and best wishes.

Please feel free to share this message with your councils and assemblies.

Vivat Jesus!

New Arizona State Officers and District Deputies

Brothers,

As you may be aware, and with great sadness, our worthy State Secretary Skip Hopler tendered his resignation as a State Officer, effective December 6, 2014. His "paying" job is consuming a great deal of his time and energy, with much travel in the near future. He believes he will in his job for several more years beyond his original plan. He understands the large time it requires to successfully fulfill his State Secretary position, and the increase time and energy to successfully fulfill the pending State Deputy position he may very well hold in the future. He also has his family to take care of.

Skip is a great man, with many talents. He will be sorely missed by the State Council and especially by me. We have become great friends and trusted partners serving together over the years as District Deputies, State Chairmen, and State Officers. I have asked Skip to consider remaining in the State family as a State Director or Chairman, as well as continue serving as a Ceremonialist. Of course, in his usual manner, he said yes. He will work to transition his responsibilities to the next State Secretary.

I have reviewed this with Supreme via our Worthy MPC Jose Jiménez. Supreme recommends that the State Deputy exercises Section 58 of the Supreme Charter, Constitution, and Laws of the Knights of Columbus, "Appointments to fill vacancies in any office of the State Council shall be made for the unexpired term by the State Officers. In case of any vacancy in the office of alternate to the Supreme Council, such vacancy shall be filled by the State Deputy."

I'd like to thank the Past State Deputies (PSDs) for their kind words and support through this process. I, like them, only want to do what is best for the State and the Order. After much thought and constructive coaching from many of the PSDs, I am very pleased to announce that I installed the following worthy gentlemen into their new State Council positions, in public, on Saturday morning December 6, 2014, at the State Mid-Year Meeting:

·         State Secretary – Sean Halpain
·         State Treasurer – Tom Kalisz
·         State Advocate – Mario Vassallo
·         State Warden – Kevin McCarthy
·         District Deputy #21- Paul Connor
·         District Deputy #32 – Gary Johnson
·         State Program Director – Chet Yancy
·         State Youth Director – Skip Hopler

Please welcome them in their new positions. They are currently working to transition into their new roles. I appreciate your patience with us as this may that a month or so for everyone to be up to speed on their new roles. I have the highest of confidence in these Brother Knights to serve the State and the Order to the best of their abilities.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Vivat Jesus!

Please Act Now and Register for the Tucson Men's Conference!

Brothers,

Please act now and register for the Tucson Men's Conference!

For many years now the Diocese of Phoenix has hosted a Catholic Men's Conference.  This conference has been a day for all Catholic men in the area to come together to be inspired and to be renewed in their Catholic Faith.  This event has always been well attended by men not only from the Diocese of Phoenix but by those from the Dioceses of Tucson and Gallup, as well.

This year the Diocese of Tucson will be hosting its first Catholic Men's Conference.  There will be challenging testimonials from local men and opportunities to receive the sacrament of confession.  We will close the day by celebrating Holy Mass with Most Reverend Gerald Kicanas, D.D., Bishop of Tucson.  We encourage you to join us for a day of inspiring presentations and fellowship.  We also encourage you to invite any Catholic man (brother, son, brother-in-law, friend, neighbor, etc…) that you may know to join you.  This Conference has made an amazing difference in the lives of many of the men who have attended it in the past and is sure to make an impact on yours.

·         The event will be emceed by KOLD News 13 Sports Director Damien Alameda.
·         Guest speakers include:
o   The Most Rev. Gerald Kicanas (Bishop of Tucson)
o   Most Rev. Ricardo Ramirez, C.S.B., D.D. (Bishop Emeritus of Las Cruces)
o   Mr. Peter Herbeck (Renewal Ministries and Vice President and Director of Mission)
·         Music will be provided by Tom Booth, who wrote and sings our current State Theme "I will choose Christ, I will choose love, I choose to serve."
This Conference will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (SEAS) Catholic Parish, 8650 N. Shannon Rd, Tucson, AZ 85742, on 22 November 2014.  The Conference starts at 9:30 AM and ends at 4:00 PM.  Registration begins at 8:00 AM but we encourage you to register early so the Conference Team will have an accurate count of attendees in order to have the exact amount of lunches, shirts and give away items (donated by local businesses).
